- Introduction to Cake Decorating
”Dear Bonnie,
This is my story of how I found out about you in Germany and came to Toronto to study with you. I hope you like it.
It all began on one of those dark grey and depressing days when I walked out of my house to the video store to get the movie "The Perfect Man’. I had always admired Heather Locklear from when I was little, and knew she would be doing something with cakes in the movie, and as I love to bake, I thought this would be the perfect film for me.” Read More

- Floodwork and Cookies
”Just wanted to write a little note and say Thank you so much to Lani. I had
such a great time at the Cookies and Floodwork workshop last Friday. I learned
so much, I really wish that I had taken this course last year before doing 80
wedding cookie bombonieres, because my cookies on Friday night came out so much
nicer...oh well, better late then never. I thought Lani was a great teacher. She
is very informative, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I really liked how she
said no question is a stupid or dumb question. She made the atmosphere very
comfortable that you didn't feel dumb asking a question. So thanks again Lani,
for making my first class at Bonnie Gordon's a lot of fun. I can't wait until
Sunday to take the Fondants Basics workshop.”

- Private & Group Lessons
“I just wanted to say that I had the most amazing time at your school...it far
exceeded my original expectations (that were already high)! My gumpaste flowers,
sugar vase and the dummy cake all made it back in perfect condition...no
casualties! I was just thrilled with my private lessons and learned so many tips
and tricks that would have taken me years to figure out on my own, if ever, and
I have come away with new skill and increased confidence. I can't believe what I
learned in such a short amount of time. Being taught by you was just a dream...I
am such a fan of your work and now of your school!! :-) Baking and Buttercream
was just a delight and such a surprise to me...Sarah is one amazing and natural
born teacher. Originally, I felt slightly reluctant to take the class but I am
just so relieved and thrilled to have taken it...it totally changed my
perception of baking cakes and making icing. I have already recommended it to
friends. Please pass on to Sarah that I thought her class was outstanding.... I
will be making one of her cakes and doing icing tomorrow! Jenny's gumpaste class
also was wonderful...I especially love the rose and the sweet pea. She is such a
talented lady and she taught the class in such an easy to follow manner! The
flowers ended up looking realistic and professional!! My husband and kids
couldn't believe how beautiful the flowers were. I was so proud!! I am anxious
to finish my pink hydrangea dummy cake and will send you a pic when I am done!!
Again, thank-you from the bottom of my heart, I loved every single second of
being at your school.”

"After taking several classes at the Bonnie Gordon School for Cake Decorating &
Design, I decided to take a private class with Bonnie to focus on the cake
decorating skills I felt I needed to improve upon. Having one on one time with
Bonnie allowed me to tailor the class to fit my specific needs. The private
class definitely enhanced my skills, and I walked away with more helpful tips
then I could ask for! Thank you for the time you spent with me Bonnie, what I
learned in our private class was certainly valuable to my cake decorating!!"
-Josie
- Topsy-Turvy 2 Day Workshop
"This was an amazing course. We were taught how to design and construct a
whimsical cake, and by the end, I had a cake that was not only visually
appealing, but extremely sturdy. This course has given me the know-how to
confidently build an off-kilter cake. What was particularly exceptional about
the course is that we were encouraged to come up with our own design. Unlike
many other courses in cake decorating, there is nothing "cookie-cutter" about
the cake we make in this course. The instructor (Sarah) was a pleasure to learn
from. She provided us with many useful suggestions that I will be able to apply
to all my future cakes."

- Introduction to Cake Decorating / Intermediate Cake
Decorating & Design, 3-Day Intensive
"I thoroughly enjoyed your class and it was definitely worth flying to Toronto
in the freezing cold. My cake made it back; luckily, I made it back safe, too
(thank God!). I am just writing to say Thank You. Your class was really
enjoyable and I wish you were in the States so I can take more classes from you
(don’t know how much you’d enjoy me in the classes, though). Thanks for
everything."
-Jeni from Los Angeles
"My Business partner and I have just recently completed the 4-day Intensive
Intermediate Cake Decorating & Design Course with Bonnie Gordon and we are
totally inspired! We both enjoyed this class very much. Not only did we learn a
great deal from Bonnie’s experience in decorating and designing cakes but
equally we learned a lot on the business end of making cakes to sale. We both
received one on one attention during this class and found that even in our most
inexperienced areas’ we could become confident with our work. Bonnie is a
wonderful teacher and gives great attention to detail. From the beginning of our
individual projects we were encouraged to express our own creativity. At the end
of this course we feel the distance traveled, time, and money spent were well
worth the knowledge gained. With our shop scheduled to open soon this class has
given us the edge we need for our new business."
- Debbie & Rhonda, Alabama, U.S.A.
"I learned so much in this course! We were introduced to so many tricks and
techniques. Many of which I had read about in books, but was not sure how to
properly execute. This course gave me the opportunity to try new things, and
improve on things that I already knew how to do. As with all of Bonnie's
courses, this course was filled with knowledge and information that can only
come from years of professional experience. Further, what also makes Bonnie's
course unique is that we were taught topics that are typically not covered in
cake decorating courses, such as the design process, and the business of cake
design. I whole-heartedly recommend this course to anyone who is serious about
cake design."
-Jessica
"Just a note to tell you how much fun I had in the beginner and intermediate
intensive and how much I learned. It was definitely worth it to come from
Edmonton to be in your company, and of course the company of the other students.
It was also great learning from Lani and Sarah. Speaking with them about baking
and designing allowed me to learn that much more. The atmosphere you provide
your students is both positive and creative which opens us all to so much
inspiration. Bonnie, your willingness to share and teach really helped me get
back to a creative place where I can be brave enough to create original cakes of
my own. I will definitely sign up for another course in my future travels.
Again, thanks so much...it was a privilege learning from someone as talented as
you! PS. My 3 tiered final project cake made it safely back to Edmonton
(and it was checked baggage, believe or not)!"
- Ailynn
"I really learned a lot from the Intensive Introduction to Cake Decorating Class
you taught Dec 11-13th, 2006. Your instruction was truly professional and
enthusiastic. Thank You!!!
I came away from the class with valuable knowledge of Professional Cake
Decorating, and feel inspired to create many quality cakes for my family &
friends.
I love all aspects of Baking from breads, pies, pastry, cookies and cakes and I
only wish I had more personal time to expand on this passion, but I work long
hours and I have a lot on my plate at this point in my life. I was so inspired
to see how all the other women in the class were so enthusiastic about cakes, I
think the most valuable lesson I learned was if you love something make room for
it in your life…I would love nothing more than to take all your classes, but can
only take a few here and there at this time, slowly but SURELY. " -
Angela
"I just finished the beginner and intermediate course at Bonnie Gordon's and I
learned so much. Even though I am an experienced decorator I learn so much on
making a "designer" cake. Bonnie was an amazing teacher and brought out the
artist in each one of us. All of the other women there were great to meet and
truly talented. It was so great meeting people who share the same passion.
Everyone's cake projects turned out so beautiful, different and truly original.
There was so much taught I wouldn't know where to start. To all experienced and
beginner decorators I truly recommend any courses offered by Bonnie. It was
probably one of the best experiences in my life and I plan on taking more
courses." - Lori
"I just wanted to write you a note to express how much I enjoyed your class
this past weekend! It far exceeded my expectations and I really appreciated your
warmth, patience, and willingness to share your experience and expertise. This
is the best and most enjoyable class I have taken in a very long time and you
have really inspired me to practice and develop my cake designing and decorating
skills further. I would recommend this class to anyone who is interested in this
field. You won't find another teacher who is more knowledgeable, helpful, and
encouraging than Bonnie Gordon. Thanks again Bonnie for helping me develop my
skills so I can share them with others!"
- Natalie
- Preserves & Custom Cakes
"The Preserves & Custom Cakes class was great. Lani was very passionate in her
teaching us how to make preserves and custom cakes, which made us all the more
interested and excited about what we were learning in the class. She was an
amazing teacher, and her lessons and tips for making preserves and cakes were
wonderful. I will definitely take what I learned in this class and start making
these lovely preserves and jams, and use them when filling my cakes."
"I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed today's class with Lani
(Preserves). I took away so much from those few hours!! Lani was very down to
earth and free with her knowledge. I was also impressed with the personal time
she spent with each of us. You should be very proud to have her representing
you, and based on this afternoon I am excited to pack in as many classes as I
can with you and your team. Its worth the 2 hr drive!!!"
"Lani was a lively and inspiring teacher with a wealth of knowledge about making
preserves (I'm sure all of our families will have treat baskets this holiday
season!) But best of all, she made me laugh - her passion is contagious…"
- Gumpaste Flowers
"The Gumpaste Flowers class was wonderful. Jenny was a great teacher who not
only showed us her easy to follow techniques of making gum paste flowers, but
helped each of us individually in the areas we needed help in. I learned so much
in the 2 short classes, and I am definitely going to takes those skills with me
in my own cake decorating."
- Introduction to Cake Decorating
“I just wanted to say thank you for teaching me such invaluable skills in your
Introduction to Cake Decorating class. I learned so much more in the way of
decorating techniques in the five classes I spent with you than in the multitude
of different courses that I've taken elsewhere. The cakes I can now create are
better than ever (and thanks to the Baking and Buttercream Workshop, they taste
great, are smoothly covered with buttercream, and are perfectly levelled)! But
while I am so thankful for the skills you taught me, I am even more grateful for
the lessons that you shared with me. You gave me the creative freedom that I
felt was lacking in the other courses I had taken elsewhere. You taught to be an
individual... that I could create any design I so desired... that not all
flowers necessarily ought to look identical to each other... that there is no
such thing as a "mistake", just a design modification... that the cakes are
essentially works of art and, as such, should always have a personal touch.
Thank you, thank you, thank you - I enjoyed myself immensely. I can't wait until
Intermediate Cake Decorating class in October! Looking forward to seeing you
then!" - Francesca
- Baking & Buttercream
"I just wanted to thank you for another great class! I took Baking and
Buttercream with Sarah and she was amazing. Not only was it so much fun, but she
was an excellent teacher. She was knowledgeable, clear, and very approachable. I
learned so many skills and tips that I'll keep with me always! Thanks again."
“I want to tell you what a wonderful class Sarah gave yesterday, Baking
and Buttercream. Sarah is knowledgeable, experienced, confident and eager to
impart her knowledge. Thank you Sarah."
I just wanted to let you know that I thought Sarah was fantastic at leading the
class last Saturday - I told her that in person but also wanted you to know my
comments. She was friendly, informative and clearly loves baking! I'd say she's
a keeper. Also - the cakes were delicious ... I'll be adding those recipes to my
"tried and true" recipe box.
"I really enjoyed the baking and buttercream class on Saturday! I'm home all day
with my 2 babies and this class was so relaxing for me. I can't wait to try out
all the new recipes I learned. I want to keep taking more and more classes!"
"I took your Baking and Buttercream class on Saturday the 17th with Sarah. I had
a great time, I really enjoyed myself. All along I thought what I have been
doing was the only way, but learning the actual technique has taught me so much.
Sarah was great with teaching she was aware of her students and most of all had
the passion to teach it which made the rest of us all love it so much more. I
was so proud of myself! Thank you.”
- Introduction to Sugarwork
"Thanks so much for having the sugar class yesterday. I really enjoyed myself and have been really inspired by it. I have sketches galore of what I want to do with cakes! I want to make an “Ode to Chihuly” cake – I’ve been wanting to do that for some time, now with the new “skills” I know I can do it!"
- Introduction to Cake Decorating
“Thank you for yesterday’s class. I came home last night, stared at my cake and then collapsed on my couch. Baking is a lot of work. It’s incredible how much I have learned from you in this past month. I know I can probably be annoying at times, constantly asking questions and for techniques but I'm really excited about everything there is to learn. Over the past couple of years I've been trying to find myself and looking into career possibilities in either the financial world or in medicine but I would always complain that I needed something with colour in my life and something with imagination and I think this is it. Again thank you for all your patience and for being a great inspiration.”
- Ruffles and Bows
“I had such a wonderful time at the last class I actually refuse to take my cake out
of the kitchen ..... I get joy just looking at it ....and of course showing it off proudly to everyone.”
- Garden Hydrangea
“Bonnie is an excellent teacher that gives phenomenal direction, but lets our own creative side come out. I was amazed at my finished product, all thanks to Bonnie. For how incredibly talented Bonnie Gordon is she is equally friendly. Thank you for the best course I've ever taken!”
- Whimsical Garden Workshop
"I just wanted to say thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us at
the whimsical garden cake workshop. I showed some pictures of my cake to
my friends and family and they were all very impressed!"
“Thanks again for a wonder and amazing experience. Creating my own version of
Whimsical Garden was fun and exciting. It was amazing to see that each of the
students had created their own unique version of this amazing cake. I was
definitely proud of what I have accomplished in the few short months that I have
been taking classes with you. I am astonished at the results and impact I have
had and the reaction of many of my friends and neighbours who have been
intrigued and excited to see what the next cake will be. Thank you for
encouraging my creativity. I have included some pictures. The first is my
completed top for the Whimsical Garden cake and the second is my own version of
the garden hydrangea cake. I have enjoyed trying the dusting techniques that you
demonstrated in that class and have been playing with colours.”
- Lynn
- Introduction to Cake Decorating
"Thank you so much for the amazing experience during march break! I learned
so much during the course and consequently I have been having a great time
playing around with different things this week. I feel as though I have
finally found the perfect creative endeavor for me. Cake decorating
combines the fine hand work, creativity and beauty that I have such a
passion for. I am grateful to have had the opportunity (albeit brief) to
learn from the best."
"I am really glad that I found your website and took your class... I
enjoyed the class so much and learned the techniques from you. Now this
new found passion really motivates me to practice and I am just so excited
to explore more in cake decorating."
"I really enjoyed the course (Introduction to Cake Decorating) and I
learned so much. You are such a great teacher. These new found skills
will allow me to combine my passion for the arts and baking. The best of
both worlds."
"I enjoyed Bonnie Gordon's Introduction to Cake Decorating tremendously. In
five weeks I learned everything I need to start making beautiful cakes.
The classes were small which allowed for lots of individual attention from
Bonnie for each student. The instruction was professional and
comprehensive yet easygoing. This is not a "cookie-cutter" class: we were
shown the skills we need and then encouraged to find our own style. We had
a lot of fun in the class. I would heartily recommend it for both the
serious student and the hobbiest."
- Intermediate Cake Decorating & Design
"I just wanted to let you know- I got 76 points for my cake (I believe the
winner scored 78) and I was asked if I would like to put my cake on
display at the Redpath Sugar Museum. I didnt even know such a museum
existed but I'm definately putting my cake on display. I wanted to say
thank you, you are an amazing teacher and in 4 short months I was not
only able to score well in a competition but also got an invite to be on
display at a museum. I have my first consultation on Thursday. I spent
all day yesterday baking."
- A Passion for Chocolate Workshop
"Thanks so much for the delectible class on chocolate yesterday. It's
incredible how much work goes into making truffles! I must say that they
were the best truffles I've tasted!"
- Baking & Buttercream
“I just wanted to write you and tell you again how great I thought the workshop was. We learned a lot from you and we LOVED the cakes/icing that you made. I have never liked lemon desserts in the past but I love that cake and I can't wait to make it for my family. We hope to sign up for more of your courses in the future.”
“I just wanted to thank you again for a great day. I did not know what to expect that day but I left there learning so much and wanting to learn even more.”
“Thank you so much for a fantastic class on Saturday November 12th. I truly feel that I learned a lot and I admit that the next day I went out and purchases a thermometer as your butter cream was to die for!”
“Well I wanted to let you know I loved your class; not only was it fun, I learned a lot. My hubby really appreciated the samples I brought home and he wanted me to tell you they were excellent (not like you don’t know that already). I now have very big shoes to fill.”
