Description: If you've ever wished you could create little gumpaste cake toppers but thought you weren't 'artistic' enough then this class is for you. This hands on 3.5 hour Introduction to Figure Modelling class will teach you, step by step, how to create whimsical 3D animals.
You will learn to make an adorable gumpaste puppy which can easily be transformed into many other animals. Time permitting, in the last portion of the class we will go over the basics of human proportions.
Introduction to Figure Modelling and Intermediate Figure Modelling is taught by Sally Bratt, a recent Bonnie Gordon School graduate. A children's book illustrator and graphic artist turned cake designer, Sally brings over 25 yrs of experience spent studying and drawing animals and the human form.

Description: Gown inspired cakes continue to be a popular trend for weddings and many other events. In this hands-on class, Lori Hutchinson of The Caketress will show students how to take inspiration from a couture gown and create a stunning and unique two tiered cake. Students will learn how to delicately decorate with fondant as if it were fabric and create ruffles, pleats, rouching and sequins. Students are encouraged to bring photos from magazines and other sources for inspiration.
Prerequisite:Please note students must be comfortable covering cakes with fondant and be of an intermediate level.

Description: This class is designed to introduce both beginners and accomplished painters to the art of painting on cakes. Whether cake designers make use of these skills to add dimension to small details or to paint an entire cake, this hands-on class will demonstrate how to transform cakes into beautiful and unique works of art. Topics covered include how to mix colours and turn food colour into “paint”, how to create homemade cake stencils, techniques for transferring images onto fondant, how to paint large sections of fondant, and how to use paint to make small details really pop. Tips for designing a painted cake will be explored, and several beautiful painting techniques will be demonstrated, such as painting a cloisinee effect, free-hand painting, painting on piping and painting trim borders.

Description: This five hour introductory hands-on workshop introduces students to the fine art of working with sugar and the techniques and tools required to create simple eye-catching decorations which may used to decorate cakes and desserts or as stand alone centerpieces.
Students will learn how to cast and pull sugar; use a sugar pump to create translucent balls and transform sugar into ribbons, bows, flowers and leaves. Additional topics covered include the correct way to assemble, transport and store sugar pieces.

Students are responsible for ensuring there are no scheduling conflicts when enrolling in two or more classes. If you do not attend the class you are registered for, your payment will be forfeited. 7 days notice is required for class cancellations upon which a credit note will be issued and may be applied to future classes within a 6 month period.
